Stakeholders & advocacy

At Cordeel, we contribute to the debates, programmes, and policy processes that determine how fast the construction industry decarbonises.

Interests and views of stakeholders

At Cordeel, we believe that transparency builds trust and that we can learn from diverse perspectives. That is why we maintain ongoing communication with our numerous stakeholders, who are greatly affected by our actions.

As a company, we strive to set a positive example by communicating openly and welcoming constructive feedback, as we believe this helps us grow and improve.

Through our ongoing engagement, we have developed a clear understanding of the interests and views of our key stakeholders and how these relate to our strategy and business model.

Our clients increasingly demand energy-efficient buildings, and a growing number — particularly those with investor involvement — have high ambitions regarding circularity and sustainability.

This translates into a rising demand for recognised certifications such as BREEAM and WELL, as well as a clear expectation for EU Taxonomy alignment on our projects.

Our employees value career development, and secure employment

Our financial partners are focused on risk management but also express a strong interest in our innovation efforts and in how we integrate sustainability into our everyday business operations.

Safety and ethical behaviour are fundamental expectations across all stakeholder groups.

Advocacy

G1-5

We are active members of numerous industry associations and organisations, including Smart Buildings In Use, Belesco, Flux 50, ClusterTWEED, PV-Vlaanderen, Netwerk De Vlaamse Waterweg, Embuild, ADEB-VBA, VOKA, Buildwise, and Agoria.

In several of these, we hold board-level positions (e.g., Belesco, Belgian Green Building Council) or participate in dedicated working groups (e.g., Flux 50, ADEB-VBA).

The main topics covered by our engagement activities are: Energy transition, PFAS, circularity and nature.

We actively support the Belgian Green Building Council in its efforts toward the uniformization of EU taxonomy guidelines for the Belgian building sector, EPB regulation, and LCA methodology.

All association memberships are regular memberships with standard fees.

We maintain direct contact with federal and regional ministers.

We view these engagements as opportunities to advance future-oriented topics aligned with our sustainability strategy, rather than to protect the status quo.

These activities directly relate to our material impacts and opportunities in sustainable construction, energy efficiency, and circular economy practices.

During the reporting period, we did not appoint any members of the administrative, management, or supervisory bodies who held a comparable position in public administration (including regulators) in the two preceding years.

The total monetary value of direct and indirect financial and in-kind political contributions during the reporting period was 0 €.

No financial contributions — including donations, loans, sponsorships, or advance payments — were made to political parties, elected representatives, or persons seeking political office.

No in-kind contributions — such as advertising, use of facilities, equipment donations, or consultancy work — were provided.

No indirect contributions were made through intermediaries, lobbyists, charities, or think tanks.

Initiatives we’re participating in

We are member of impactful initiatives, where we share our knowledge and learn from other organisations. Here you can find some examples.

OSCAR

Cordeel is a pioneering partner in OSCAR (Organising and SCAling the Renovation wave), a programme that turns scattered renovation projects into coordinated, district-scale programmes across Belgium. Belgium’s renovation rate sits below 1%, against a 3% target. OSCAR brings together cities, contractors, and residents to close that gap.

BIOgBOUW

Cordeel sits on the steering group of BIOgBOUW, a Buildwise research programme working to make bio-based and geo-based building materials standard practice in construction.

BIOgBOUW tests, validates, and documents these materials to build the evidence base the sector needs, with a target of 20% bio-circular material choices in new construction by 2030.

As one of 30 steering group members, we help shape the programme and apply its findings on our own projects.

Green Deal Inland Shipping

The Green Deal Inland Shipping aims to achieve zero-emission logistics by 2050. C-ground annually transports 150,000 – 200,000 tons of soil via waterways while C-concrete uses shipping for delivering sand, precast elements, and other raw materials, reducing road traffic and promoting sustainable logistics. The initiative outlines 15 strategic objectives focusing on technology, finance, policy, and implementation.

Green Deal Klimaatbestendige Omgeving

Green Deal Klimaatbestendige Omgeving (“climate resilient environment”) aims to make Flanders more resilient to climate change and biodiversity loss. This initiative brings together over 90 organizations across sectors to implement climate-adaptive solutions in spatial development. Through collaborative efforts, the deal focuses on knowledge sharing, scaling up best practices, and integrating climate considerations into policy and planning.
