Communities
Temporary use of to be developed projects
At Cordeel, we believe in maximizing the social impact of every project we develop, even before its completion. We embrace the temporary use of buildings awaiting development and renovation.
At the historic Ambiorix site in Tongeren, the Makelarij initiative transformed empty spaces into active hubs for cultural events, workshops, and community gatherings. A bakery, a gym, a cat café, and a driving school moved in.
At the Collegesite in Tienen, we partnered with a bar that employs people with disabilities. They have jobs. The site has life.
These initiatives not only contribute to the revitalization of spaces but also help us creating a positive social impact. Both projects run while development continues.
Werfbuur: telling neighbours what is coming
At the Ambiorix site in Tongeren, our largest residential development to date, we launched a partnership with Werfbuur.
They a platform that lets us inform neighbours before site activities start, not after complaints arrive.
If noisy works are planned next week, people know in advance. Werfbuur gives us one central place to communicate at scale, keep a short line between site and community, and handle feedback and questions without things falling through the cracks.
We intend to roll this approach out to other developments and where we build directly alongside existing neighborhoods.
Decarbonising events
Just like construction sites, festivals and major events are often organised at remote location. The organisers are also faced with limited or no power supply, which causes the usage of fuel-powered diesel generators that cause noise pollution and CO₂.
In 2025, C-battery provided mobile battery containers to several events, replacing diesel with stored energy.
Festivel vzw in Temse, a warm annual festival where all proceeds go to charity, used a mobile battery container to cut its emissions.
